November 18, 2007

Dubai: 18 November, 2007 – The International Media Production Zone (IMPZ), a member of TECOM Investments, recently received representatives from one of the world’s leading forest products companies, UPM, at the Middle East’s first free zone for the printing, publishing, packaging (3P) and graphic arts industries.

The visit was organized by IMPZ’s business partner Gimpex - a subsidiary of UPM. The Gimpex facility at IMPZ serves as UPM’s headquarters for its regional operations.

Hamad Huraiz, Executive Director of IMPZ along with senior officials from the cluster met with Matti Lievonen, President of UPM - Fine and Specialty Paper, and Elie Wadi, General Manager of Gimpex.

The delegation was accompanied by Louai N. Kuzbari, Vice President of Vimpex, an IMPZ business partner and regional market leaders in the paper industry.

UPM is a global forest products group with core businesses in printing papers, speciality papers, label materials and wood products. A leading manufacturer in all key markets across its main product portfolio, UPM has production plants in 14 countries and employs over 28,000 people.

In 2006, the company secured sales of EUR 10 billion, of which three quarters came from Europe. Key paper mills are located in Finland, Germany, France, the UK, Austria, the United States, Canada and China. UPM’s shares are quoted on the Helsinki and New York stock exchanges.

UPM was the top environmental supplier of paper to the world's largest magazine publisher, Time Inc in 2007. In Time Inc’s annual review of the environmental performance of its paper suppliers, UPM scored the highest points.

Dubai's International Media Production Zone seeks to create a unique cluster for media production companies from across the industry value chain. It also aims to foster an environment that facilities 3P and graphic arts companies from around the world to interact and collaborate effectively.

As a master developer, IMPZ will catalyse the growth of the industry by building key facilities, investing in infrastructure and forming a unique free zone that incorporates industrial, commercial, residential and community service projects under its umbrella. The vast complex will be housed on an area of more than 43 million square feet of land, in the heart of commercial Dubai.
