IMPZ Supports Young UAE National Talent

As part of their community outreach programme, IMPZ is sponsoring the graduation project of Asma AlQassimi, a Bachelor student of Applied Media Studies from Dubai Women’s College (HCT).

Hamad Huraiz, Executive Director of IMPZ, said: “Supporting young UAE national talent is in line with IMPZ’s efforts of Emiratisation along with its policy of prioritizing human resources as the main pillar of development and growth in UAE”.

Asma AlQassimi did her internship programme in Graphic Design Unit (GDU) in TECOM Investments. Her graduation project “Maraya” is the first women’s tabloid in the UAE and is a hip, energetic tabloid, a cross between magazine and newspaper, which exposes women readers to a contemporary way of looking at certain things such as fashion, beauty, health, career, sports/arts, entertainment, social issues and the UAE heritage.

Maraya is the first women’s tabloid in the UAE. This project is one of the graduation projects of a Bachelor student majoring in Applied Media Studies.  The Applied Media Studies program provides students with a comprehensive induction into current practices in various sectors of the Media industry combined with the industry specific skills necessary to fulfill the employment needs of the industry in the UAE.

Purpose of the project

Maraya is a hip, energetic tabloid (across between magazine and newspaper) that exposes women readers to a contemporary way of looking at certain things such as fashion, beauty, health, career, sports/arts, entertainment, social issues and the UAE heritage. It gives them the chance to look at traditionally male-oriented topics through women’s eyes. Maraya’s target markets are women of all ages, focusing on young Emirati women. The objective of this project is to set women free in terms of speech, expressing themselves and living a modern lifestyle. The mission statement of this tabloid is “being a representative of a modern and young Emirati woman speaking her mind”.

The purpose of producing this tabloid is to fill the void of such project in the print industry since it is the first women’s tabloid in the UAE. The benefits of creating Maraya are giving the audience the chance to get more information on various topics linked to the UAE. Emiratis, especially women, will related to Maraya and provide readers from different nationalities an insight about Emirati lifestyle from an Emirati. This tabloid will shed light on important issues that the UAE society overlooks, it will also reveal local talents and introduce Emirati entrepreneurs to UAE’s market.
